I (John Edelson) think all homeschool kids should learn to program. In fact, I think computer programming and basic instruction logic and algorithms should be required for high school graduation for everyone.  Here's a quick look at some resources with more coming later....

Ipad - Younger Kids - Dinosaur - Daisy the Dinosaur is a free iPad app designed to introduce young students to  some programming basics. The app asks students to create commands for Daisy the Dinosaur to carry out.
Ipad Programming - Ages 11 and up - Cargo-Bot is a free iApp for programming which is really a challenge to learn to program.

Lego Mindstorm Kit - This allows kids to program using the simple Lego language and their blocks.

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens. It also has music by C418! So far 38,234,808 people have registered and 7,100,898 people bought the game.

Homeschool Programming.com - Computer programming courses for kids and teens teach students to write programs, games, and Android applications!

Motherboard Books - Beginning programming using the Logo language as found in MicroWorlds software, creating drawings and animations. See a video tour: a student's drawing and animation. HTML (Web page language) using Notepad, Windows accessory software already on your computer. Create a Web page (see a video tour) and make simple Web pages using free trial software Cool Page.(See a page from the book.)
